New TSC CBA: The Kenya National Union of Teachers is demanding for a 200 per cent pay raise from the Teachers Service Commission.
According to the KNUT secretary-general Wilson Sossion, KNUT wants the lowest pay raise in the next Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) to be 120 per cent. Sossion says that this mega raise demand is based on the considering that the government had in 2017 agreed to offer tutors between 50-60 per cent increment.

“There should be an annual increment of 5.0 per cent of basic salary; house allowance should be increased by 50 per cent and accommodation and night allowance by 50 per cent of minimum basic salary. The commuter allowance should be increased by 50 per cent, risk allowance by 10 per cent and hardship by 10 per cent,” Sossion said in a report that was published in the Daily Nation on Monday.
According to the report in the paper, Sossion wants the TSC to immediately begin negotiations for the 2021-2023 CBA. “The current CBA only favours teachers in administrative positions, leaving the classroom tutor with little increment over the last four years,” he said. Sossion has also accused the TSC of presenting KNUT’s proposals to the Salaries and Remuneration Commission.
Teachers say no to TSC new pay raise proposal
“Before CBA proposals are presented to the SRC, unions ought to have been involved, tabled their proposals, discussed them. The commission should only present the details of discussions and their proposals after we have had our discussions,” the Nation quoted him.
According to the report, “Over the last four years, the 2017-2021 Sh. 54 billion deal has been a source of conflict between Knut and TSC and has seen teachers under the union denied promotions and salary increment.” New TSC CBA.
