Abel Mutua, Philip Karanja’s movie makes Sh. 4 million in five days

Abel Mutua and Philip Karanja are all smile after their new film set off to a roaring start. Within the first five days after its release, the film which is known as the Grand Little Lie managed to net Sh. 4 million.

The film is available on the duo’s own website where, viewers are required to pay a one off fee of Sh. 200 to watch it. This implies that within the first five days of its release, the film was watched by an average of 20,000 people. “I don’t think kuna sinema imekuwa na sales kama hizo,” said Abel.

Abel and Philip who are both film directors writers had initially set a target of attracting 50,000 viewers. The duo took to the streets with banners to market the film, and their efforts appear to have paid off. Abel Mutua and Philip Karanja trace their film roles back to the days when they starred in the highly rated show Tahidi High which used to air on Citizen Tv.

Incidentally, the film stars Catherine Kamau popularly known as Kate Actress, who is married to Phili Karanja. The film also features Kenya’s A-list actors namely Michael Munyoki as Joe, Mercy Mutisya as Ziada, Bilal Mwaura as Plug, Nyokabi Macharia as assistant plug, and Sauti Sol’s lead singer Bien.

The film tells the story of Joe, a people-pleaser who lies to his boss to please his girlfriend only for the lie to blow up in his face.
