Abel Mutua: I have never been asked for a CV in my 16-year career

Co-Op post

Award-winning filmmaker and actor Abel Mutua recently shared his high school experience and explained why, to date, he has never been asked to submit his Curriculum Vitae (CV) while applying for jobs.

This was in response to Larry Madowo’s sentiment on KCSE exams. Whilst encouraging students who’d failed their KCSE, the CNN journalist disclosed that he also performed dismally. He said that he scored a B- but has been fortunate enough to travel around the world.

“I ‘failed’ KCSE but I did 45 foreign trips last year – 27 countries. My B- in the national exam was so bad I was getting pushed to repeat Form 4! Mtu asikupimie hewa,” Larry wrote on his socials.

Mkurugenzi, also known as Mkuru, echoed Larry Madowo’s sentiments. He reminisced about his past, saying that he was a rebellious student mainly because he was asked to do things he disliked.

Abel said that his passion in high school was drama, a pursuit that teachers disapproved of. This often landed him in hot water, with two suspensions bearing testimony to his craftiness.

“But you cannot contain an artiste’s mind. I am an artiste but they wanted me to sit in class and learn social and chemistry. I was suspended more than twice,” he said

To date, Abel Mutua stated that nobody has ever asked him for his CV since graduating in 2008.

“I have never been asked for my papers anywhere. There is no place I have ever taken my CV since I began work, that was in 2008 to date, 16 years.”

He noted that, just like Larry Madowo, he failed his exams. Mkurugenzi however remained positive and assured his fans that there is a life beyond papers.

Abel Mutua: How my company lost Sh5 million in months

“Larry! knew from the word go that he was a communicator. So as long as his Kiswahili or English, was good. That was all he wanted. All those other subjects were just details tu. Tell me where is Larry using Chemistry right now?” he questioned.

“But because English yake ilikuwa fiti, I’m so sure that even if he failed, his English marks were good. That is all he needed,” Mutua shared.

Abel Mutua explained that the reason for his perspective is that, in class, there is very little relatable content to craft.

According to him, what he does now has no direct connection to what he read in class, making it pointless to ask for his papers. The same could be said for Larry Madowo’s case.
