Dr. Adisa Lugaliki: Kenya loses first doctor to coronavirus

Adisa Lugaliki: Kenya has lost the first doctor to Covid-19. This is after Dr. Doreen Adisa Lugaliki, a gynaecologist, died on Friday morning at the Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH).

In a statement posted on its official Facebook account, the Kenyan Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) mourned the death of one of their own.

“We have lost a hardworking obstetrician/gynaecologist, a mother, a friend and a colleague to the devastating effects of Covid-19. Our condolences to the family and friends of Dr Doreen Lugaliki,” the post by KMPDU said.

KMPDU said that Dr. Adisa Lugaliki (MBChB, MMed, Private Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at The Nairobi South Hospital) contracted the virus while in the line of duty.

Reports say that Dr. Lugaliki died 48 hours after she checked into hospital for treatment over the virus.

On Thursday, the Ministry of Health announced 447 new COVID-19 cases after testing 3,803 samples bringing the national tally to 8,975. This is the largest number of confirmed cases in a day since the first case was reported in the country. While speaking in Mombasa County, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe said a total of 64 patients were discharged bringing the total number of recoveries to 2,657. May her soul rest in peace.
