Becoming a home business owner is an option if you don’t actually need to run your business from rented or owned business premises.
It’s a common choice for people who just need a small office, or who spend most of their time working on premises owned by their clients.
However, working from home may not be an option if it significantly changes the use of your home, or affects your local area, for example if you have lots of visitors. If you rent your home for example, you might be restricted from using it for business purposes. If you are interested in self-employment but are unsure about whether it is for you, start by carefully weighing the pros and cons of starting a home-based business.
Advantages and disadvantages of home-based business
The major advantages are that you:
1.You will not have a sizeable expenditure on office rental or office purchase.Your oworking area is just next to you and you can work in your pajamas. No commute and no required office wardrobe are two of the money-saving perks of working at home.
2. You will save time and money by cutting your commute. Fare or fuel costs that are needed to go to work will no longer be there. Such money can then be channeled to other critical areas
3. You can be flexible around the hours you work. If you have trouble waking up, you can decide to sleep then wake up at your own time and work until late in the night.
4. You can avoid the distractions and noise of the workplace. No more arguing with colleagues or fellow business owners.
5. When you start a business at your home, you are taking less of a risk with your new business as less start-up money is required.
6. You are your own boss.  When you are calling the shots, your business can be structured around your passions. You choose the work, the clients, and the hours. You alone are responsible for the success of your business, and that is this best motivation.
The disadvantages are:
1.It may prove difficult to keep work and home-life separate, and there may be domestic distractions and interruptions.
2. A lack of contact with other people and businesses will turn out as a detrimental since you wont be up to date with what’s going on.
3. Procastination will hang on your back. You will keep on postponing important tasks because you believe you have all the time in the world
4. You might end up working long hours because you haven’t set time limits for yourself.
5. You may feel a sense of isolation if you are working alone at home with few social interactions on a day-to-day basis
Starting a home-based business is not the right choice for everyone. Carefully weigh your options before you decide to take on this challenge. Remember, having a strong financial support system such as adequate savings and a spouse with a steady stream of income can help make starting your own business a smoother process
