The new chairperson of the Central Bank of Kenya Andrew Musangi is worth Sh. 1.2 billion.

Musangi is husband to the late Chris Kirubi’s eldest daughter Mary-anne Musangi.

He had revealed his worth during his interview with the Parliamentary Finance Committee on 12 September 2023. Two days later, on September 14, 2023, the committee approved his appointment to the position of CBK Chairperson.

The lawyer, who remains in charge of Kirubi’s vast estate, had said that he found his wealth through real estate, the stock exchange and bond trading.

Musangi beat 5 other candidates to the position, who included; Abdikadir Omar, Thomas Mwagedhu, John Konchellah, James Lopoyetum and James Gituro Wahome.

Musangi has held different positions in various sectors such as legal, business and government, making him a top contender. He is the son of former Egerton University Chancellor Professor Richard Musangi.

Meet Late Kirubi’s son who’s been named CBK Chairperson by Ruto

Musangi studied law in the UK at Hull University and was admitted to the bar as an advocate of the high court of Kenya in 1995. He married Kirubi’s daughter, who was named heiress to the multi-billion fortune in 2009.

Former President Uhuru Kenyatta appointed him as chairman of Kenya’s Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA). He also served as chairman of the Jubilee Party National Election Board in 2017.

When he appeared for vetting before the Parliamentary Finance Board, Musangi maintained that he left the former ruling party long ago and that he did not play any role in the 2022 election that Ruto won.
