In a notice dated 17th December 2024, the Office of the Attorney General announced that they have introduced a VIP Marriage Room in Nairobi.
The room is said to offer premium features according to couples preferences and also guarantee quicker marriage services for couples.
As per the announcement, the couples who seek such services from the Office of the Attorney General will be at will to decorate and customize their rooms as per their preference.
“We are excited to announce the launch of a VIP Marriage Room, Nairobi which offers an upscale, expedited marriage service for couples seeking an elegant and efficient wedding experience,” read the announcement.
“This service shall be offered at an up-to-scaled fee to reflect the premium features including a private, well-appointed room designed for personalized ceremonies and the option for couples to decorate the room according to their preferences.”
The Office of the Attorney General has encouraged Kenyans who seek to obtain such services to visit the OAG and Department of Justice, Marriage Section.
Other than the VIP Marriage Room, the Attorney General has announced that they will henceforth be officiating garden weddings, however, at a prescribed fee.
Couples will be required to procure a beautiful, serene outdoor setting for their special day which will be graced by representatives of the Office of the Attorney General.

“We look forward to being part of your special journey and ensuring that your marriage ceremony is both legally binding and truly unforgettable,” the notice continued.
The new adjustments by the OAG are set to impact the outlook of civil marriages in Kenya which were more of official ‘unglamorous’ events at the Attorney General’s office. Civil marriages are conducted by the Registrar of Marriages, Deputy County Commissioners or Assistant County Commissioners.
Prior to planning for a civil marriage, one needs to ascertain whether it is under a notice or a special license. Recently, the Office of the Attorney General expanded its offices to 15 counties to ensure such services were more accessible to all Kenyans.
