Ministry announces auction of state cars for as low as Sh30,000, how to buy

The State Department for Environment and Climate Change under the Ministry of Environment has announced a public auction of various items including motor vehicles and other assorted items.

In a notice published on MyGov on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, the department listed unserviceable motor vehicles and other assorted items that will be auctioned.

The public auction is scheduled to take place on Friday, June 14, starting from 10 am at the Kenya Meteorological Department offices auction grounds at Dagoretti Corner along Ngong Road.

Some of the vehicles on auction include; Isuzu NPR with a reserve price of Ksh250,000, Mitsubishi Van at Ksh150,000, Volkswagen Passat at Ksh200,000, Diahatsu Terio at Ksh298,000, Toyota Prado at Ksh300,000, and Mitsubishi V31W Pajero at Ksh100,000.

Others are; Toyota Corolla at the reserve price of Ksh80,000, Mitsubishi Pajero at Ksh120,000, Nissan Tida at Ksh30,000 and another Volkswagen Passat at Ksh200,000.

The exercise will also see the department dispose of other assorted items including office furniture at Ksh20,000,  hydrogen generators at Ksh2,000, lawn mowers at Ksh1,000, and concrete posts at Ksh800.

Others are galvanised water storage tanks at Ksh12,000, diesel tank at Ksh1,500, satellite dish at Ksh2,000 and hydraulic motor parts at Ksh2,000, among other items.

Potential bidders are urged to view the items from June 4 to June 11 during working hours. The items are in different locations including NEMA offices, KMD auction ground, Wilson garage, traffic headquarters, Tom’s auto garage, and NHIF building offices.

Conditions for buying

Interested bidders will be required to pay a Ksh10,000 refundable deposit in cash at the department’s headquarters cash office on the 11th floor.

The deposit shall be treated as part of the payment for successful bidders while unsuccessful bidders will get a refund.

In addition, Successful bidders must pay a deposit of 25% of the purchase price by the fall of the hammer.

All vehicles purchased at the auctions shall be collected in the various locations within seven days after which the winner shall be charged Ksh1,000 a day in storage fee.
