Ben Chumo’s wealth: Former Kenya Power managong director Ben Chumo has revealed his worth.
During a parliamentary vetting session, Mr. Chumo revealed that he is worth Sh. 200 million. He then went on to say that he does not see himself as a rich man.
The vetting of Mr. Chumo is the preliminary stage of his appointment by President Uhuru Kenyatta as the chair person of the Salaries and Remuneration Committee (SRC).
Incidentally, the vetting came even as Mr. Chumo is facing a court case over corruption at Kenya Power. He was released on bond early last week.
It is not clear why the president saw it fit not to withdraw his nomination at a time when he has been claiming to be on top of things in matters corruption. It was also not clear if the parliamentary committe will approve his nomination.
Mr. Chumo replaced former SRC chairperson Sarah Serem who was appointed to an ambassadorial position by Mr. Kenyatta after retiring from her position at SRC.
The corruption case Mr. Chumo is facing revolves the acquisition and instalment of power transformers that was characterized by theft and overvaluation of quotations with the aim of defrauding taxpayers. The latter has become a common theme in the way public resources in Kenya are stolen.
