Blogger Robert Alai takes on Nation Media Group over ‘fresh smear campaign’

Popular blogger Robert Alai has taken on Nation Media Group over what he termed as a smear campaign aimed at silencing him.

Mr. Alai took note of a series of stories by Nation Media Group’s Nairobi News blog of which he has featured as the subject. Through his tweeter handle @RobertAlai, Mr. Alai said that the continuing publication of the stories by NMG will only make him bolder.

He said: “NTV and Nation Media Group wish that they will smear till I keep quiet is an exercise in futility. Makes me bolder.” The series of stories by Nation’s Nairobi News blog on Robert Alai, which appeared to be directed attacks at the controversial blogger.

Yesterday, Robert Alai confirmed that indeed he tried to stop NTV from airing the Certificates of Doom story by Dennis Okari. The confirmation by the controversial blogger came a few hours after Nation Media Group ran a recorded phone conversation between Robert Alai and Dennis Okari. The phone clip is said to have been recorded on Sunday when the blogger called Mr. Okari in an attempt to stop the feature from airing.

Through his twitter handle @RobertAlai, Mr. Alai tweeted that he indeed did try to stop the feature from airing due to what he termed as witch hunt by Nation Media Group. Said Robert Alai: “Yes I TRIED to stop the #CertificatesOfDoom broadcast because it’s witch-hunt bone out of malice by UAC owner. No journalism there. Next?”

Although viewers have not denied the possibility and existence of fake degrees and diplomas being offered by local colleges and universities, NTV has been put on the spotlight as to why the Sunday feature only addressed one college.
