The Kenya Rural Roads Authority has opened the tender for the upgrade of the Kisima-Kibirchia-Kiirua-Ruiri road in Buuri constituency to bitumen standards. The tarmacking of the road is expected to be a major milestone for the constituency and big score for the area MP Mr. Boniface Kinoti Gatobu. Speaking to Bizna, Mr. Gatobu expressed hope that the road construction works will start soon. “We are expecting the contractors to come to the site any time from now,” he said.
Last week, engineers from the ministry of roads and transport toured the area together with potential road contractors in an examination of the roads that have been designated for upgrade to bitumen standards.
Mr. Gatobu added the tarmacking of the road will usher in a new face of development that will open up the Buuri economy to the larger Meru County. “We are excited. It has been a long wait and finally upgrading of the roads to bitumen standards are finally set to kick off. This is a historical achievement for the people of Buuri,” he said. Additionally, the tarmacking of the road is expected to ease movement of agricultural goods including maize, beans, bananas, pigeon peas, cow peas and horticultural crops from the constituency to the main Nanyuki-Meru highway.
