Insurance company Britam on Tuesday announced the appointment of Barack Obatsa as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Britam Asset Managers, effective May 29, 2023.

“We are excited to have Barack join the team and are confident that he will drive our new customer-centric transformational strategy to achieve revenue growth and strong financial performance for Britam Asset Managers,” Britam Board Chairman Kuria Muchiru said.

Prior to his appointment, Obatsa served in various capacities in the investment industry. He has an impressive academic background and an outstanding career that has seen him excel in different sectors.

He was the Regional Chief Investment Officer at Africa Alliance Bank Limited, where he served for 11 years.

Obatsa proceeded to ICEA LION Asset Management Limited, where he served as the Chief Investment Officer.

His experience ranges from traditional financial investments such as equities and fixed income to alternatives like private equity, infrastructure, and real estate classes. It includes exposure to the management of offshore funds.

Obatsa holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Financial Services from the University of Manchester Institute of Science & Technology.

He also holds a Master of Science in Finance from the University of London and a Master of Science in Real Estate from the University of Reading.

His contribution to diverse sectors earned him certification in leadership, financial modeling, equity valuation, investment strategy, portfolio management, infrastructure financing as well as public-private partnerships.
