13-year-old Kenyan girl makes Sh. 1.2 million during schools’ corona break

Cassandras Journey: Since March when schools in Kenya went on a break due to coronavirus, a thirteen year old girl has managed to rake in Sh. 1.2 million from book sales. Michelle Nyakure has been selling copies of her book known as Cassandra’s Journey.

So far she has sold over 2,000 copies of the book which sells at Sh. 600 per copy. Ms. Nyakure is a form one student at Sacho High school.

Her cousin, Abigael Kipkorir, has been in charge of the book’s sales and distribution. She told a local online news journal that Ms. Nyakure had started her book project whil in standard eight last year.

“She embarked on the project when she was about to sit for her KCPE exams at Potter House Academy. When schools closed down, Ms. Nyakure got time to finish her book which she launched recently. “We have managed to sell more than 2,000 copies since the book was launched back in June,” her cousin explained.

Nyakure’s new book, Cassandras Journey, is testament to her brilliance. In her KCPE exams, she managed to score 423 marks. She is now working towards realizing her dream of becoming a renowned award-winning author. According to the Ministry of Education, schools in Kenya are slated to reopen in January 2021.
