Eight-time Kenya Chess Premier League Champions KCB is gearing up for the return of league action scheduled for this weekend in Kisumu County.

The team will square it out with Victoria Chess Club on Saturday and Maven Chess Club on Sunday. The team is currently at the top of the table with 4 games played so far.

Speaking ahead of the weekend’s fixtures, KCB Head Coach Benjamin Magana said: ““Our league resumes this coming weekend, and it will be a good opportunity to once again gauge our strength against the local teams. We are currently leading in the table, and we wish to maintain our unbeaten run to the end of the season.’’

KCB was crowned the top corporate team at the recently concluded Kiambu Open Chess Tournament this past weekend. In individual performances, Joseph Muragu secured third place in the open category, while Joyce Nyaruai clinched third in the ladies’ section.

“There is tremendous improvement in the team. Everyone is working extremely hard to ensure that we continue dominating the league. We want to show that we have what it takes to reclaim the title. As we head to Kisumu, we are confident that we will have a good outing,” noted FIDE Master Joyce Nyaruai.

However, KCB will be without the services of standout teenage sensation Robert Mcligeyo, who is currently in Cairo, Egypt, representing Kenya at the Africa Individual Chess Championship.
