China Flights to Kenya: The staff member at Kenya Airways who exposed the arrival and poor handling of passengers from China has been suspended.

The employee identified as Gire Ali was suspended by KQ for apparently exposing poor handling and management of passengers arriving from corona virus hit China.

“Following a report of video of China Southern flights arrival at JKIA and circulation of the video clip widely on social media and your alleged involvement in the matter, it has been decided that you be suspended from duty with effect from Feb 27,” Chief human resource Evelyne Munyoki said. “This is to pave way for further investigations into the matter. During the period of suspension, you will be required to avail yourself to the investigating team. You are therefore required to remain contactable and within reach during the period. Also note that the suspension period will be on full salary.”

On Wednesday, a Southern China Airlines flight with 239 passengers arrived at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport from China. The passengers were then requested to self-quarantine for a period of 14 days.

As the arrival of this flight exposed government negligence and apparent don’t care attitude over the virus that is currently wrecking havoc across the world, the Chinese embassy on Thursday released a statement saying that more China flights to Kenya were due for arrival at JKIA over the coming weeks.

“The Airlines will notify the Ministry of Health in advance and all passengers will have to undergo screening and clearance,” read the statement from the embassy. The Embassy said that the China Southern Airlines resumed flights from Guangzhou to Nairobi. The airline’s flights are now reduced to once a week until March 25, 2020. In the statement, China also promised to bring in experts to the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) to assist in the screening process of passengers arriving from China.
