Citizen TV’s Sam Gituku promoted days after graduation

The Royal Media Services (RMS) has awarded Citizen TV journalist Sam Gituku a higher position at the station days after graduating with a Master’s Degree in Digital Journalism from The Aga Khan University.

Gituku’s promotion to Editor, Quality, and Product Development was announced by the Group Editorial Director Linus Kaikai.

“I am delighted to announce that Sam Gituku has been promoted to Editor, Quality and Product Development in line with the company’s policy of recognizing and rewarding outstanding performance in a staffer’s respective role,” Kaikai announced.

“For the last three years, Sam has demonstrated exceptional resourcefulness and consistency in driving some of the Group’s on-air products, in a way that merits and obliges the next-level roles.” He added.

Gituku, a veteran broadcast journalist, is well-known for his outstanding ability to break down complex topics and numbers in a way that is easily understandable to the audience.

Blow to Citizen TV as government poaches another star reporter

He has been working in the media industry since 2012 when he was hired as a Radio Correspondent for Royal Media Services-owned Radio Citizen before rising to be a morning show TV host.

He climbed the ranks to become one of the trusted journalists at the station and has interviewed some of the most notable faces in Kenyan politics and public affairs, including President William Ruto and Opposition leader and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

He currently serves as a presenter at Citizen TV as well as a political, economic, and current affairs reporter.

He was a lead reporter in Kenya’s General Election of 2017, covering the electoral management by the electoral commission, the presidential election results tallying, and declaration.

Gituku holds a BSc. in Information Science from Moi University, a Master’s Degree in Communication Studies from the University of Nairobi, a Master’s Degree in Digital Journalism from The Aga Khan University, and he is also a Certified Public Accountant.
