The Co-operative Bank has scooped two prestigious banking awards in the Banker Africa East Africa awards 2017.
The bank bagged the best bank in Kenya award in the Diaspora Offering.
Co-op Bank further won the the most Social Responsible Bank through its Co-op Bank Foundation.
Strikingly, the winning of the diaspora award comes at a time when the bank has enhanced its banking products for Kenyans in the diaspora.
These have included facilitation of investments, loans, and deposits for Kenyans living abroad.
For instance, last year, Co-operative Bank inked a deal with Gulf-based remittances firm UAE Exchange that would see Kenyans living in the United Arab Emirates remit money into accounts held at Co-op Bank without incurring extra costs.
This deal came as Co-op Bank opened a 24 hour Diaspora Centre at the headquarters to serve Kenyans abroad. By then, Co-op Bank was handling about Sh. 30 billion of the nearly Sh. 150 billion national remittances from abroad, giving testimony to the efficiency and diversity of its diaspora package.
