Health CS Susan Nakhumicha has voiced concerns regarding the potential health risks associated with scanning for Worldcoins.
She has advised Kenyans who registered for Worldcoin to seek medical attention if they experience any unusual symptoms. This follows after the government takes measures against Sam Altman’s controversial Worldcoin.
In a session with legislators tasked with examining Worldcoin operations, Susan Nakhumicha shared initial findings from the ongoing investigations related to the cryptocurrency.
She disclosed that it seemed the scanning technology used by Worldcoin may have inadvertently exposed Kenyans to health problems.
“As indicated by Hon. Shakeel Shabir, there may be Kenyans out there already experiencing different complications/changes in their bodies after undergoing the scan,” she remarked.
In the ongoing investigations, Susan Nakhumicha reiterated that the circular orb for gathering data from Kenyan citizens for at least Sh. 7,800, was neither designed nor certified for medical/health-related purposes.
“We would like to urge them to report to the nearest health facilities in order to undergo an in-depth examination,” she added.
The CS also indicated that they were yet to ascertain the amount of infrared in the equipment as it was yet to be evaluated by the Pharmacy and Poisons Board.
She told the MPs that if presented with any opportunity, she would have the orb assessed and further advice accordingly.
Kenyans, with their strong sense of humour, chose to poke fun at the Health CS’s remarks, suggesting that her concerns were mere ‘hot-air’.
They said that there was nothing wrong with Worldcoin, adding that she just wanted to make money from the examination.
