Deposits in Murang’a saccos hit Sh. 6.5 billion

The amount of deposits made in Murang’a farmers and traders saccos have hit Sh. 6.5 billion.

According to Murang’a Governor, Mwangi wa Iria, the deposits have grown from Sh. 4 billion in 2013 to Sh. 6.5 billion this year.

Currently, the number of saccos in the county comprise at least 520,000 members. The county currently has 427 saccos.

The county is currently in the process of establishing a milk processing plant aimed at assisting dairy farmers with value addition.

Owned by the Murang’a County Creameries, which collects at least 132,000 litres of milk daily, the capacity of the plant is projected at 400,000 litres of milk in a day.
