Co-op Bank named East Africa’s Regional Bank of the Year

The Co-operative Bank of Kenya has been named as East Africa’s Regional Bank of the Year. The bank was awarded during the African Banker Awards 2022 Gala Ceremony that was held at the Kempinksi Hotel in Accra, Ghana.

The event was held under the High Patronage of the African Development Bank, being part of the programme of the Bank’s Annual Meetings. Over 300 banking and financial services professionals joined the Gala Ceremony to discover the winners of the African Banker Awards 2022.

The Awards were sponsored by the African Guarantee Fund, Bank of Industry (Nigeria) and the Trade Development Bank as well as Access Bank.

Over the last two years, Co-op Bank has been on an award-winning streak that it has sustained in tandem with high market and financial performance.

The lender was in 2020 named as Bank of The Year in Kenya, in The Ft Banker 2020 Awards run by the Financial Times of London.

“As Co-op Bank implements its digitization strategy plans, it is enjoying gains from increased efficiency and enhanced digital offerings to its customers. Products such as E-credit and Mcoopcash are continually upgraded,” the award citation said.

In 2021, Co-op Bank’s chief executive officer Dr. Gideon Muriuki was named the best bank CEO in Africa. Dr. Muriuki who is the the Group Managing Director & CEO at Co-op Bank scooped the best bank CEO award during the 2021 edition of the  African Banking Awards that were organised by EMEA Finance.

The EMEA Finance Awards recognizes corporate leaders and financial institutions which, through their client focus and sound leadership, continue to increase profitability, deliver affordable credit to the retail and wholesale markets, and support local and transnational corporations do business.

The EMEA Awards also awarded the Best Bank in Kenya Award to the Co-operative Bank. The Best Asset Manager award also went to Co-opTrust Investment Services Limited, which is a wholly owned subsidiary of Co-op Bank.

With Sh. 181 billion in assets under management, Co-op Trust is one of the largest and most successful locally-owned asset management firms in Kenya.
