In the first term of 2023, the Ministry of Education revised the school academic calendar for 2023 for all learners in primary and secondary schools in Kenya.
The Ministry said that the revision of the term dates was a bid to normalize the school calendar.
According to the new timetable, the opening dates for the 2023 second term remained unchanged, with the term beginning May 8 and running up to 11 August 2023.

The Education Ministry also maintained the previously set mid-term break dates from  June 29 to July 2nd. The break will run for a period of three days meaning learners will resume on July 3rd.
The third term will run for 9 weeks, from 28 August to 27 October, to pave the way for the national examinations. The term will not have a mid-term break.
The ministry further left the previously set national exam dates untouched, with the new calendar showing that the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education- KCPE and the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment examinations will kick off on October 30.
In addition, Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education exams will commence on November 3, with the candidates expected to write their exams until November 24.
This will later pave the way for marking, which according to the released timetable, will commence on November 27 and run until December 15.
