Embassies and High Commissions in Kenya address Ruto's win, Raila's rejection of results

Multiple Embassies and High Commissions in Kenya have addressed the General Elections that took place on August 9, and the subsequent victory by William Ruto in the presidential contest.

The Embassies and High Commissions led by Germany, Canada and the United Kingdom urged anyone who might feel aggrieved to go to court and desist paralyzing the whole country.

This comes after Azimio la Umoja presidential candidate Raila Odinga announced that he was disputing the results and would be going to court in search of a nullification.

Raila lost to deputy president William Ruto. He managed 48.85 per cent of the vote in contrast to Dr Ruto who garnered the 50.49 per cent to cross the mandatory legal requirement.

Here is the full statement that they issued on the elections:

“On August 15, the Chair of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) announced the results of Kenya’s Presidential election.

NCBA

We commend the people of Kenya for the peace and calm displayed on Election Day, the IEBC’s organisation of the elections, and the positive roles played by civil society, religious and business leaders, and the security sector. Kenya has set an example to the region and continent as a whole. We call upon all actors to uphold the spirit of peace in the coming weeks.

We encourage all political parties and leaders to follow all existing mechanisms for dispute resolution, as laid out by the Constitution of Kenya.

Did State sponsor Bomas chaos to push for run off?

This statement has been issued by the following Embassies and High Commissions: Australia, Canada, Denmark, Germany, The Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, and The UK.”
