Endarasha school owner reveals intricate details during 6-hour DCI grilling

A multi-agency team comprised of DCI officers, Kenya Power representatives, and officials from the Ministry of Education and Public Service questioned the owner of Hillside Endarasha School for more than 6 hours.

The investigation follows a fire that tragically took the lives of 21 students, with many others still unaccounted for.

Homicide Director Martin Nyoguto headed the investigation. David Kinyua, director of Hillside Endarasha Academy took the officers on a tour around the premises and pointed out the power installations throughout the school.

David Kinyua said that he started the school almost 15 years ago. He was grilled about happenings prior to the Thursday night fire that razed the dormitory and resulted in the children’s deaths.

Credible sources say the multi-agency team believes the fire was caused by an electrical fault. Detectives also questioned the technician who installed the school’s electrical circuit.

DCI officers have scheduled several people for questioning about the fire. This includes the school’s headteacher, matron, the teacher on duty, and other witnesses, including survivors.

This comes just a day after the government announced the start of postmortems on the bodies recovered from the fire. According to the government spokesperson, this decision was made after all bodies had been retrieved.

“The government once again extends its most heartfelt condolences to the families, friends and relatives of all those who are affected,” said Mwaura.
