How to craft your CV with raising video introductions
Earlier, Bizna Kenya shared tips about how job seekers can create compelling CVs, especially at this time when many job seekers are asking applicants to share video introductions:
According to career coach Kelvin Waga, crafting a strong CV remains essential. He advised job seekers to create results-driven CVs that highlight quantifiable achievements, making them more compelling to recruiters.
“An ATS-friendly CV is crucial. Be sure to incorporate relevant keywords to increase its chances of passing automated screenings. Formatting should be strategic, using bullet points, clear sections, and a professional layout for easy readability,” Waga advised.
Waga also emphasizes storytelling, encouraging candidates to showcase career progression and impact rather than just listing responsibilities.
As AI and video tools become more integrated into hiring, job seekers, the career coach noted, need to view their CVs as complementary to video introductions.
“While videos provide a glimpse into personality and communication skills, a well-structured CV remains the foundation of a candidate’s professional narrative. Mastering both written and video presentation skills will be key to standing out in an increasingly competitive job market,” he noted.
Tips to prepare and stand out during video introductions
If you are prompted by a recruiter to share a video introduction, Waga suggested the following practical tips to help in preparation:
Dressing professionally: Treat it like an in-person interview to create a strong first impression.
Good lighting and clear sound quality also make a big difference: They ensure that recruiters focus on the message rather than distractions.
Waga advised structuring responses effectively, starting with a confident introduction, highlighting key achievements, and ending with a strong closing remark.
Most importantly, he stressed that practicing beforehand is crucial, adding that candidates should aim for a natural delivery while avoiding reading directly from a script.
Keep the video concise, ideally within 1–2 minutes, to ensure engagement without losing impact.
Confidence and authenticity are key: If nerves are an issue, Waga suggests multiple practice runs and focusing on clarity and enthusiasm rather than perfection.
