Eric Muuga, the Water, Irrigation and Sanitation Cabinet Secretary nominee, has revealed that he is worth Sh. 31 million and does not own a vehicle.

He said that he has built up his wealth from farming and land ventures. “I have chosen to invest instead of owning a vehicle,” he told the National Assembly Committee on Appointments. Muuga, when confirmed, will be the youngest in the cabinet of President William Ruto.

With his net worth of Sh. 31 million, Muuga will join the cabinet as the least wealthy. he will join a cabinet whose combined net worth has shocked Kenyans by running into billions of shillings.

Muuga was vetted hot on the heels of reappointed cabinet secretaries whose wealth has ballooned by hundreds of millions in the 21 months they have served as CSes.

For instance, in his individual vetting session, Kithure Kindiki who held the position of Interior Minister revealed that he made Sh. 150 million in the less than two year period he was the Cabinet Secretary for Interior. His wealth increased from Sh. 544 million to Sh. 694 million.

Alice Wahome who was the CS in charge of Lands saw her wealth increase by Sh. 109 million from Sh. 218 million to Sh. 327 million. On her part, Soipan Tuya who was the Cabinet Secretary for Environment and Forestry had he wealth rise from Sh. 156 million to Sh. 243 million.
