Eunice Namonywe: Police officer who is a part-time lecturer, has a PhD in psychology

Dr. Eunice Namonywe Emusugut is not your ordinary police officer but a trailblazer whose academic achievements and service record continue to inspire her colleagues.

Currently serving as a Chief Inspector of Police, Dr. Eunice holds various academic certifications, including a PhD in Counselling Psychology and a Master’s in Counselling Psychology.

According to the National Police Service, Dr. Eunice joined the police service in 2003 and has, over the years, undertaken various roles including enforcing law and order and shaping mental health support within the police service.

She currently serves at Kenya Police Headquarters under the Directorate of Chaplaincy, Counselling and Psychosocial Support, helping officers deal with stress, trauma, and emotional challenges linked to their service.

Prior to her appointment to the current role, Dr. Eunice worked at Karen Police Station, the Crime Office in the former North Eastern Province, and the AIDS Control Unit under the Directorate of Personnel.

She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Counselling Psychology from Africa International University, a Master’s in the same field from Daystar University, and an Advanced Diploma in Mental Health Practice from Amref International University.

Dr. Eunice also holds a Doctorate (PhD) in Counselling Psychology from the Catholic University of Eastern Africa. Beyond her police service, she is also a part-time lecturer, mentoring future mental health professionals.

NPS took to social media to celebrate her as a trailblazer and leader whose contribution is improving the overall institutional growth and shaping the future of policing.

“Her story is not just one of personal success—it is a blueprint for integrating academic knowledge into policing to improve service delivery, mental wellness, and institutional growth,” NPS stated.

“Officers like Dr. Eunice exemplify how academic empowerment within the NPS enhances professionalism, nurtures resilience, and fosters a culture of ethical and compassionate policing,” It added.
