Fake doctor arrested at Malindi hospital while busy 'treating' patients

A quack doctor has been arrested at a hospital ward in Malindi as he moved around “treating” patients in wards.

The fake doctor who was identified as 36-year-old Mecha Okechi was arrested at the Malindi sub-County Hospital. He was in full medical gear at the time of arrest.

“We found a con fleecing the unsuspecting members of the public using the hospital name. He was claiming to be a doctor but after interrogation, we learned he was not trained to be a practitioner,” Malindi sub-County Hospital superintendent David Mang’ong’o said.

According to a related report that appeared on Citizen, the fake doctor had also duped people in the area with the promise of giving them jobs.

Apparently, a local preacher, Rev. John Leiyo of the New Covenant Ministries, claimed that Mecha, who had joined his church recently, conned three of his relatives with the promise of fake jobs.

“When he came to the church, he introduced himself as a medical doctor working at the Malindi sub-county hospital and that he was also a Gospel singer and we allowed him to join the praise and worship team,” Rev. Leiyo told the media house..
