Fuel prices drop by Sh. 1 in July EPRA pump price review

The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority, EPRA, has released fuel prices that are to take effect from midnight of July 15 to August 14, 2024.

In the latest review announced on Sunday, July 14, EPRA reduced Super Petrol by Sh1. Diesel prices were reduced by Sh. 1.50 while that of Kerosene was reduced by Sh1.30.

“In the period under review, the maximum allowed petroleum pump price for Super Petrol, Diesel and Kerosene decreased by Sh. 1.00 per litre, Sh. 1.50 per litre and Sh. 1.30 per litre respectively,” read the notice in part.

After the review, pump prices for Super Petrol in Nairobi stood at Sh. 188.84. Similarly, Diesel and Kerosene will cost Sh.  171.6 and Sh. 161.75 in Nairobi.

Before the new prices now, Super Petrol retailed at Sh. 189.84 in the capital city. Diesel and Kerosene were sold at Sh. 173.10 and Sh. 163.05, respectively.

A litre of super petrol will accordingly retail at Sh. 185.66 in Mombasa, Sh. 187.90 in Nakuru, and Sh. 188.67 in Eldoret.

Diesel shall cost Sh. 168.43 in Mombasa, Sh. 171.04 in Nakuru, and Sh. 171.81 in Eldoret. Kerosene will be valued at Sh. 158.7 in Mombasa, Sh. 161.27 in Nakuru, and Sh. 162.04 in Eldoret.

“The prices are inclusive of the 16% Value Added Tax (VAT) in line with the provisions of the Finance Act 2023, the Tax Laws (Amendment) Act 2020 and the revised rates for excise duty adjusted for inflation as per Legal Notice No. 194 of 2020,” advised EPRA.

EPRA said the average landed cost of imported super petrol was reduced by 4.65% in June compared to May, while diesel was reduced by 1.19%. The landed cost of kerosene increased by 2.01% in June as compared to May.

“The average landed cost of imported Super Petrol decreased by 4.65% from $750.95 per cubic metre in May 2024 to $716.03 per cubic metre in June 2024; Diesel decreased by 1.19% from $690.99 per cubic metre to $682.73 per cubic metre while Kerosene increased by 2.01% from $679.14 per cubic metre to $692.80 per cubic metre,” added EPRA.
