Former Attorney General Professor Githu Muigai has proposed that Kenya should abolish the Women Rep seat and cut down the number of elected parliamentarians to just 100.
Professor Muigai has also proposed that the number of counties be cut to 14 instead of the current 47.
“We have too many people in Parliament, we have too many constituencies and counties. They cost us a lot of money. Reduce the constituencies to about 100 and have one man and one woman in each,” Prof Muigai said
He added that the Bomas draft initially proposed 14 counties, but the number was increased for political reasons. Professor Muigai made the proposal when he appeared before the National Dialogue Committee.
Professor Githu’s proposal comes at a time when different voices are calling for the restructuring of the governance structure in the country.
