Gloria Orwoba: The change maker who ditched a lucrative job in Denmark for Kenyan politics

Co-Op post

Gloria Orwoba is a Kenyan woman who left her well-paying job in Denmark to pursue her passion for politics.

She is a community worker, women, and youth empowerment advocate, and a global professional who has managed teams with international companies.

Despite being discouraged by many senior politicians who dismissed her as too young and inexperienced, she persisted and joined the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party in Kenya.

In this article, we will explore Gloria’s journey, her reasons for leaving her job in Denmark, and her plans for the future.

Gloria’s decision to leave a comfortable life in Denmark was challenging. She had a successful career managing Facebook’s data network, and her family and friends were comfortable with her life abroad.

However, she knew that her heart was in politics, and she was determined to make a difference in her home country. She left Denmark and returned to Kenya with the sole intention of running for the Bobasi constituency seat in Kisii County.

Gloria’s Political Journey

Gloria’s journey in politics was a challenging one. She faced many obstacles, including being dismissed by senior politicians who told her that she was too young and inexperienced to run for political office.

However, she persisted and eventually joined the UDA party, where she found a home with like-minded individuals who shared her passion for women and youth empowerment.

At the UDA party, Gloria found a party leader who believed in her and encouraged her to pursue her dreams. She was impressed by William Ruto’s vision for Kenya, which focused on inclusion and empowerment for all Kenyans, including those at the bottom of the pyramid. She was also drawn to the party’s ideologies and frameworks, which supported and empowered women into elective positions.

As a member of the UDA party, Gloria has continued her work as a community worker and women and youth empowerment advocate. She has initiated several programs in Kenya over the years, including the Uji Ya Glo Nutrition Programme, which provides a cup of porridge and two slices of bread to all students in 13 primary schools in the Bobasi constituency.

The program has employed at least three people per school and has significantly impacted the local economy. Gloria intends to expand the program to cover all public schools in her home constituency and eventually spread it to other parts of Kisii County.

Gloria’s decision to leave her well-paying job in Denmark to pursue politics differed from what many would make. However, her passion for community work, women and youth empowerment, and her desire to make a difference in her home country drove her to take this bold step.

Gloria’s story inspires many young women in Kenya and across the world who may face similar obstacles in the pursuit of their dreams.

Gloria Orwoba’s decision to leave her well-paying job in Denmark to pursue her passion for politics is a testament to her courage and determination. She has faced many obstacles along the way, but she has persevered and is now making a difference in her home country.

Her work as a community worker, women, youth empowerment advocate, and UDA party member has significantly impacted the local economy and the lives of many Kenyans.
