Thousands of Kenyans lose hundreds of millions in Goldenscape scam

Goldenscape Greenhouses: Thousands of Kenyans who invested with greenhouse firm Goldenscape may have lost their investments worth millions of shillings. This emerged as reports started circulating online that the firm which promised hundreds of thousands of returns to investors had once again failed to pay up.

Apparently, the firm has not been paying its investors any cash since November last year. It’s offices along Kimathi Street and at Karen have remained shut down, with the whereabouts of its directors unknown. On February 27, the firm released a statement saying that it would pay up by February 29.

“We will be paying all our investors their returns on investments on 29th February 2020 and continue with the monthly investment payments as we always do. We will introduce a new Phase i.e Phase 5B with new return on investment rates starting 1st March 2020,” Goldenscape Greenhouses said in a statement on their Facebook page.

In response, one commentator said that instead of paying up, the firm had sent its investors revised contracts with revised returns. “Please my fellow Kenyans if you are thinking on investing with Goldenscape DO NOT they promised to pay investors on 29th Feb 2020 but instead of paying them they were sent emails with amended contracts with reduced returns and reduced contract period,” said Munene Alicia on their page.

According to the new contract, investors who wish to withdraw from the investment firm will only get their capital after 8 months. The firm was promising investors Sh. 550,000 annual returns for a Sh. 320,000 investment.

Reports indicate that the firm has also been issuing fake cheques to investors. The firm is owned by Peter Wangai. Goldenscape, which was started in 2014, had been advertising aggressively on a local television station. Alarmingly, it is the latest firm to leave thousands of Kenyans looking for quick riches reeling in millions of losses.
