Dozens of unknown people raided a carton-making factory in Mlolongo Machakos County on Saturday morning and set it ablaze.

Megvel Cartons Limited, which is associated with Paras Shah, was burnt down over land battles with a rival company. Addressing the press on Sunday, Shah accused the police of supervising the destruction of his property.

“An investment of Sh4 billion has now been razed to the ground. We have shown you pictures of the destruction of machinery. Why were goons allowed to destroy the property,” he said.

Among the items destroyed include carton-making machines and some trucks that were on the site to ferry goods. Further, an unknown value of goods was lost as locals stormed into the firm to loot products.

According to Shah, the land in question has for years been a battlefield between the two firms yielding to multiple court tussles.

Shah accused the rival firm of using fake titles to aid his eviction. However, on July 24, the Environment and Land Court in Machakos issued an injunction stopping a company that was laying claim on the property from gaining entry.

Despite the court order, the firm threatened to auction the tycoon’s property before issuing him with an eviction notice. In fear of losing his multibillion shillings company, he rushed to court and obtained stay orders.

The court further directed Mlolongo OCS to protect Megvel Cartons Limited from any destruction, but the order was broken, and property destroyed.

“Pending the hearing and determination of this application inter-partes, the orders issued on June 30 be and is hereby stayed and that inter partes hearing on August 15,” the court had ordered then.

Shah now questions why the court order was disobeyed, his goods stolen, and part of his multibillion shillings company set on fire.
