Details have emerged showing the strange life that Leah Njeri Gachanja, the grandma found dead at her house in Landless area, was living.
Njeri is claimed to have died over nine months ago. Her last interaction with the outside world was in July 2022. When she was found at her home, her body had completely decomposed. All that was left were her skeleton. Next to her was the bones of her dog.
Her chicken house was littered with bones of her hens. What is shocking is that one of her sons was her neighbour but did not know that she was dead all these months, despite living in close proximity with his mother’s house.
According to detectives, Njeri is suspected to have died in 2022. Reports say that Njeri’s life had taken a turn for the worse when she was kicked out of her . matrimonial home in Bendor estate in the early 2000s by her late husband Isaac Githuku Gachanja.
Around the year 2007, she moved to the Landless area where one of her sons helped build the house she was discovered dead in.
She was a mother of four sons, two of them who are now dead. One of the two sons, David Kihara died in 2015. The other son died in 2019. Her ex husband died in 2017.
According to relatives and neighbours, Njeri was extremely reclusive and hardly interacted with people in the Landless neighbourhood.

This has however not erased the disbelief of mother and son living in the same neighbourhood without the son checking on her.
Claims have also been raised on why no stench was detected or reported from her decomposing body.
Detectives have now summoned Njeri’s granddaughter Carol Njeri Kihara after she recorded a video showing the poor state her grandmother’s house was in.
Apparently, Nyumba Kumi association in Landless had called her on June 13 to inform her that they would break into the house. Two days later, Carol climbed over the wall and recorded the video showing the destitution in the house. Her grandma was found dead in the house days later.
