Home builders to get approvals at Huduma-like centres

The government intends to make  approval processes in the construction sector easier by introducing one-stop approval stations, structured in the popular Huduma Centres model.

The National Environment Bill, which will provide for the one-stop approval has already sailed through Cabinet and the ministry is currently tying the loose ends.

“The Bill seeks to enable developers to get various approvals at one-top-centres so that they can start their construction as earlier as possible. This will not only save on time and cut on costs but will also improve the ease of doing business in the construction industry,” Transport, Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development Principal Secretary Aidah Munano said.

The PS also said the Housing Bill, which is expected to provide a framework that will inform the development and delivery of social housing by the low cadres in society is also in place soon.

“The Bill is at the final stages. It will be in place by early next year and it will inform the delivery of housing to offset the 200,000 housing deficit the country has every year. The Bill will introduce a fund where Kenyans can tap to get financing for the housing projects.
