The National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) on Sunday announced a change in payment procedures effective immediately.

In a statement, NHIF Chief Executive  Elijah Wachira notified the public that all payments would only be made through government paybill number 222222.

“This is in line with the Kenya Gazette No. 16008 of 2022 and the Presidential Directive designating the use of paybill Number 222222 as the Government’s single payment platform,” the statement read in part.

To make payment through the new government paybill number, Wachira advised NHIF Members and Employers to Enter Paybill Number 222222 and use the following as Account Numbers depending on the purpose of the Payment.

1. Member contribution (NHIFM-ID NUMBER e.g. NHIFM-11223344)
2. Member Penalty (NHIFP-ID NUMBER e.g. NHIFP-11223344)
3. Employer Contribution (NHIFE-ESIIp NUMBER)
4. Employer Penalty (NHIFEP-EMPLOYER CODE).”

“To access NHIF services, please visit www.selfcare-ecitizen.nhif.or.ke/ or www.nhif.or.ke or the NHIF Mobile App, available on the App Store or Play Store,” Wachira added.

President William Ruto earlier directed that all government agencies use a unified payment platform.  Ruto said the move is aimed at ensuring efficiency and curbing data losses.

“From today all government agencies should use the government paybill manned by the National Treasury. All other paybills will be shut down” Ruto said.

“There is a dedicated government pay channel, 222222. The expectation of the government is that all government revenue must now use the pay channel so that Treasury can have sight of every government service that is paid for,” He explained.

Following the directive, over 1488 paybills operated by different government agencies were closed.
