Extreme Sports CEO Hussein Mohamed has announced his plan to run for the FKF presidency. This move follows much speculation and anticipation over the past two years.
Mohamed promises to revamp infrastructure and focus on commercial growth and talent development. He has a track record of success in grassroots football, notably through the Super 8 tournament. He has also been involved in top-level management.
He believes Kenyan football has been held back by systemic issues and hopes his candidacy will bring much-needed change to the current state of the sport.
“Unfortunately, holistically speaking, the story is different for Kenyan football. In just a few years, the quality of play, coaching, refereeing and personnel within the football ecosystem in general have deteriorated exponentially to unacceptable levels,” Mohammed spoke during his declaration.
“Today, I am here to tell you that we can take football to greater heights. We can transform our football into a viable and sustainable socio-economic pillar of our country,” he added.
His main goals for the sport include upgrading grassroots infrastructure, restructuring the national league, combating hooliganism, developing academies, enhancing the branding and marketing of local clubs, and tackling match-fixing across all levels.
“Our infrastructure is lagging behind those of our neighbours like Tanzania, Uganda, Ethiopia, Rwanda and continental against Senegal, Cameroon, South Africa, Egypt and Morocco,” he said.
Hussein Mohammed emphasized the importance of nurturing young football talent, both men and women, to prepare them for international success in the future.
“We must be deliberate in supporting academies that run junior leagues and programs across the country. Hope is the last thing ever lost. The hope in Kenyan football is not lost. This is a fresh start!”
He founded Extreme Sports in 2004 as a retail and distribution company specializing in action and endurance sports.

According to the company’s website, it was created with the vision of becoming one of the Middle East’s top retailers and distributors of leading global sports brands.
Currently, Hussein Mohammed serves as the Vice Chairman of the Kenya Premier League side Muranga Seal Football Club. He previously made a stab at the FKF presidency in 2011 but was unsuccessful.
The current FKF president, Nick Mwendwa, has served two terms as stipulated by the federation’s constitution. Other than Hussein Mohammed, the former FKF president also declared his intent for the seat.
