Ichaweri Road Project: A multi-billion highway is set to pass through President Uhuru Kenyatta’s village of Ichaweri. The project will cost Sh. 11 billion and is expected to e completed y June 2022 a few months before the 2022 General Elections.
The highway will connect Kiambu Road to Thika Highway to dual carriage. It will consist of some 62 kilometres and will run from Kiambu Road through Kirigiti, Ngewa, Ichaweri, Gatundu and Mangu to Thika highway.
“The government has earmarked funds through the development vote for use in engaging the consultancy services to undertake preliminary and detailed engineering design, environmental and social impact study, preliminary and detailed engineering design of Kiambu – Ngewa –Kibichoi (B30) Road,” a report from the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) said.
The highway has been split into five divisions. The 12-kilometre stretch from Kiambu Road to Ngewa will be made dual carriage while the 36-kilometre route from Ngewa to Gatundu through Ichaweri and Mangu will be single carriage. The last 14 kilometres from Mangu to Thika highway will be dual carriage.
