Inside Eliud Kipchoge’s Sh140K shoe collection

Co-Op post

The world’s greatest marathoner Eliud Kipchoge has partnered with Nike to launch the ‘EK Umoja’ collection, a weave of the best shoes the marathoner has worn over the years.

Umoja means unity in Swahili, and the collection honors the cohesive impact Kipchoge has had on the running community.

It includes five running footwear silhouettes- the Nike Alphafly 2, which costs Ksh 40K, Nike Vaporfly 3 (Ksh 40K), Nike Zoom Fly 5 (Ksh 22K), Pegasus 40 (Ksh 20K), and Nike Victory track spike (Ksh 21K).

”Umoja stands for unity in my native Swahili. This collection represents the work done together as a running family and community’’ Kipchoge said.

Every piece within the collection features white and red colors,  a color scheme that reflects Kipchoge’s first World Championship victory in the 5,000 meters, which took place in Paris in 2003.

The color also references the Nike Kenya kit the marathoner wore when he won his first gold medal. Also in the collection is an apparel line that offers the Nike Windrunner jacket, Nike Rise 365 tee, Nike Stride 7-inch short, and a Nike Dri-FIT tee.

Both the footwear and clothing selections showcase distinctive “EK” branding, along with cherished mantras closely associated with Kipchoge – “No Human is Limited” and “Let us imagine that we are in a garden. Let us focus on the flowers and not the weeds.”

The items are available at nike.com and at select retailers.

Kipchoge has never looked back since he burst into glory over 20 years ago. He recorded history as the first person and only person to run a marathon in under two hours.

The marathoner has also won 10 world marathon major titles and has received medals in each game he has competed in since 2004.

His elite status has never separated him from the running community and uses his fame to bring more people into running to enjoy the benefits born out of the sport.

The 38-year-old will be participating in the Berlin Marathon scheduled for September 24 after he announced his return to the showpiece. He hopes to make history again as he aims to become the first athlete to clinch the title five times.
