Joseph Ndubi, a former Alliance High School student, can now breathe a sigh of relief after his mother, who was jailed over a month ago released.
Ndubi scored an A in his Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) and was set to join Kenyatta University before his mother was arrested and jailed.
Zipporah Moraa, a trader from Marani sub-county in Kisii county, was jailed after losing money belonging to fellow traders, leaving his son’s star dimming.
Well-wishers came to the rescue of the young man, who was already depressed, and raised the required money to get his mother out of jail.
“I’m happy that my mum is now here and she will be able to see me join university. I want to study medicine. Thank you to everyone who stood by us and made my dreams come true,” Ndubi said.

Sources have it that Moraa, a maize trader in Kisii, lost Sh175,000 belonging to fellow traders after collecting Sh300,000 from them with a promise of getting them maize from Kehancha in Migori county.
The angry traders sued her, and the case dragged on for over a year, after which the court ordered Moraa to reimburse the Sh175,000 to the rightful owners or serve 2 years in jail.
She was, however, unable to raise the money and was jailed before well-wishers’ intervention. Among those who came to her rescue was Kitutu Chache North MP Japheth Nyakundi.
“I want to thank everyone who came to my help. It was a big shame when I was taken to prison, and my son’s life was losing direction. But God has touched all of you to raise money for my son’s education and to get me out of prison,” Moraa said.
