20-year-old Rita Waeni Muendo had been identified as the woman who was murdered at a room in Roysambu and her body dismembered.
Waeni was a student at the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT). She lived in Syokimau area with her auntie.
Her family has said that the man who murdered her had demanded for a Sh. 500,000 ransom, and it is suspected that the demand was made after he had already murdered Waeni.

“Additional two messages were sent to the family demanding the ransom. Unfortunately, the family did not get further details about the ransom or an opportunity to explore this route. Additionally, some demands were made when she had already been murdered,” the family said in a statement that was released by Dr. Lilian Mutea.
Waeni’s mutilated body was found on Sunday in an apartment in Roysambu area. According to detectives, the murderer stuffed parts of her body in polythene bags and dumped them dustbin of the apartment. Some parts of her body including the head are reported to still be missing.
Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations have arrested three men in connection with the murder, including a Nigerian national who was arrested at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) as he attempted to flee the country.
