Jones Nyaberi: I used Boda savings to build two 3-bedroom houses worth Sh. 1.5 million

Jones Nyaberi, a boda operator from Kisii has inspired many Kenyan netizens after he shared photos of his three-bedroomed house and a house that he built for his parents.

Mr. Nyaberi revealed that he spent Sh. 1.5 million to complete both constructions. All that money was generated via savings from his boda boda venture over a period of 3 years.

Jones Nyaberi is proud of the milestone and the journey he’s had in building both houses while a boda rider.

He says that he decided to venture into the business after tarmacking for years and failing to secure a job with his accounting diploma.

“I tarmacked looking for a job, but I could not get one. I decided to move back home in Kisii where I started farming cabbages and from this, I saved around Sh. 60,000,” he stated.

With this accrued amount, Mr. Nyaberi opted to buy a secondhand motorcycle from a friend. This launched his journey as a boda rider.

Jones Nyaberi recalled how one time he carried a customer who worked at a SACCO. The client encouraged Nyaberi to start saving so that he could lift himself.

With grit and willpower, Nyaberi started saving to build his own house.

“I saved up some money and then started building my house’s foundation. However, my parents lived in a dilapidated mud-walled house and so I stopped building mine first and went to construct my parents a better house,” he said.

Nyaberi completed his parent’s house first and then relaunched the construction of his house. 3 years later, his house was almost ready for occupation.

“It is a three-bedroomed house with a store, kitchen and living room. It has so far cost me Sh. 1.5 million,” he noted.

“I believe saving really helped me achieve my goals. I am also financially disciplined owing to the education I received while taking my accounting diploma,” Mr. Nyaberi said.

He advises boda riders to be trustworthy to their clients so that their businesses can flourish.

Nyaberi states he’s formed a closely-knit web of trusty connections and networks in his clients, who bestow upon sensitive deliveries. Jones Nyaberi never fails at impressing them.

“I have realized in this business, you just have to be trustworthy to your clients and your business flourishes. Some trust me even to deliver huge sums of money and I have never failed than,” he says.
