Joyce Gatiria Njagi Kindiki is the new second lady of Kenya following the swearing in of her spouse Professor Kithure Kindiki as the new Deputy president of Kenya.
Kindiki was sworn in on Friday, November 1, replacing Rigathi Gachagua who was impeached by the Senate last month.
Speaking during the swearing in ceremony held at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC), Kindiki thanked his wife for supporting him throughout his political journey.
“I am grateful to my wife, and children for being the foundation and providing support that I have always required as I navigate this difficult space”, he remarked .
So who is Joyce Gatiria?
Joyce is an esteemed senior lecturer at the University of Nairobi in the Department of Chemistry, a position she has held since 2014.

She is an academic who boasts in the field of Environmental Chemistry Holding a Bachelor of Science, a Master’s in Science, and a PhD in Environmental Chemistry.
The second lady got her doctorate of Philosophy in Environmental Chemistry from the University of Nairobi in 2013.
She is widely respected for her contributions to chemistry, as well as her commitment to maintaining a balanced and impactful career in academia.
She got married to the Deputy President in 2001 Â in a memorable celebration witnessed by family and close friends. Together, they are blessed with three children Imani, Neema, and Mwende.
Joyce succeeds Dorcas Rigathi who was on a mission to promote societal values and fight drug abuse since the Kenya Kwanza regime took power in September 2022.
