July Teachers Salary Increment: The Teachers Service Commission is expected to promote a total of 100,000 teachers in Grade B5 (previously P1) who will automatically be moved to Grade C1 starting July. Already,  some Sh. 7 billion have been set aside for the exercise.
Grade B5 teachers currently earning a basic salary of between Sh. 21,756 and Sh. 27,195 will now take home between Sh. 27, 195 and Sh. 33, 994.
Grade C1 consists of secondary teacher III, secondary teacher III/lecturer III and primary teacher I. The TSC will move all group B5 who were already teachers as of July 2017 and are strictly under CPG to C1. Teachers in C1 will move to C2 and C2 to C3. These teachers must be serving under CPG and not Schemes of Service.

A total of 29,782 teachers fall in C1 (primary teacher I and secondary teachers II) while 19,439 fall in C2 (secondary teacher II and secondary teacher UT and primary special need education teacher). Close to 100,000 principals, their deputies, head teachers and senior teachers will enjoy the new pay rise starting July. Classroom teachers received their pay rise in two phases.
In the same vein, some 5,000 diploma teachers in secondary schools have also been lined up for promotion. For secondary school teachers, all C1 teachers will be moved to C2 for Diploma holders (secondary school teacher 2) while C2 teachers will be moved to C3 for Degree holders (teacher 1).
TSC which has 320,000 teachers was allocated Sh. 266 billion for its activities by the National Treasury. The TSC will utilize Sh. 257.97 billion in teacher resource management. July Teachers Salary Increment.
