the 2018 Jumia Mobile Week has kicked off. The event, which allows consumers to buy mobile phones at discounted prices started on Monday march 19 and will go on until March 25th.
This year’s edition comes packed with over 50,000 vouchers which are set to be won simply by visiting the Jumia store site.
Some of the best offers on the inaugural day of the mobile week saw the Infinix S2 pro selling at a discounted price of just Sh. 13,999 down from Sh. 15,699.
High mobile penetration in Kenya has been driven by the arrival of aggressive entrants, such as Hong Kong based Transsion Holdings. Transsion offers quality devices at affordable prices through its brands Tecno, Itel and Infinix. Nonetheless, the smartphone industry continues to see new entrants into the market such as Oppo, Vivo and Xiaomi expected to officially expand into Kenya early this year.
The Jumia Mobile Week is the biggest mobile sale in the country. It comes at a time when Jumia has been promoting mobile penetration to enhance social and economic development.
Jumia is the largest e-commerce company by market share in the country. For example, in 2017, Kenyans bought over 250,000 smartphones on Jumia. This was an increase of 25 per cent from the number of smartphones that Kenyans bought on the site in 2016.
Apart from mobile phones, the Jumia mobile week offers have also included mobile phone accessories such as data cables, cases and covers, screen protectors, headsets, and memory cards.
