The new police officers’ salaries after SRC pay hike

The new police officers' salaries after SRC pay hike

Junior police officers in Kenya have been awarded a salary increase of Sh. 1,000. This is a shocking contrast to their bosses who have been awarded a Sh. 11,000 pay raise.

These salary increases are set to come into effect from the August pay roll. The new salary hikes have been recommended by Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC).

The recommended salaries indicate that an entry-level constable will now get a salary of Sh. 21, 645 reflecting an increase from the previous salary of Sh. 20,390 that this category of officers have been earning.

These salary increases were announced in a circular that was read out by National Police Service Commission (NPSC) chairman Eliud Kinuthia and handed over to Inspector-General of Police Japhet Koome.

“Out of the Sh. 27.1 billion allocated to all civil servants, police officers got a share of Sh. 3.6 billion, with the rest going to other civil servants. This is the best we could get to be implemented in two phases; the first phase of Sh. 2.284 billion will be implemented in the current financial year and the second phase allocation of Sh. 1.317 billion will be implemented in the 2024/2025 financial year,” said Kinuthia.
