ACK All Saints Mountain View Church in Kangemi has been left distraught after the church caretaker, identified as George Mburu, allegedly made way Sh. 1.5 million which was raised on Sunday and kept overnight at the church altar before disappearing on Monday.

The Kangemi police have launched a manhunt to find the suspect. The money was raised over a period of time and amounted to Sh. 1.5 million on Sunday.

It was meant for the development of the church. The money was ransacked from a drawer at the Church’s altar. This has left the clergy and congregants of the church in disbelief.

“When the church elder John Wainanina and treasurer Elizabeth Njoki, went to the church to collect the money today (Monday) morning, they found the doors ajar, which was unusual,” reports DCI

“A closer look at the Lord’s table where bread and wine are consecrated, they were shocked to find it ransacked and the money that had been kept in a drawer beneath the altar missing!” said the DCI, in a statement on Monday.

The church caretaker is said to have interfered with the CCTV systems and disabled them before looting the offerings that were raised on Sunday by congregants for church development.

“Shocked members of the flock who reside close to the church milled around conversing in low tones, as they tried to come to terms with the disappearance of the money meant for the development of the community church. They wondered aloud how the trusted custodian of the parish would resort to such unbecoming conduct,” said the DCI.

Other congregants were heard pronouncing curses at the suspect, whom they declared shall never prosper “in his remaining under the sun,” while others called for his return and forgiveness as repentance of his sins was the right thing to do.

Nairobi police boss James Mugera said the detectives are pursuing critical leads on the whereabouts of the hiding suspect and it is only a matter of time before the law caught up to him.
