Kasipul MP Charles Ong’ondo has been shot dead by a gunman in Nairobi. Emerging reports say that Ong’ondo was shot dead by a gunman who was on a motorcycle along Ngong Road in Nairobi.
The murder occurred along the road near the City Mortuary roundabout at around 7.30pm on Wednesday evening. The Member of Parliament was in a white Toyota Crown car. The motive for the murder was not immediately clear. The MP’s driver survived the attack.
Reports say that the MP and his driver had been trailed by a motorcycle that had a rider and a pillion passenger who turned out to be the gunman. The gunman alighted from the motorcycle and fired at the MP at close range. The fatally wounded MP was rushed to the Nairobi Hospital, where his body lay at the emergency section.
Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) boss Mohamed Amin, Nairobi police boss George Seda, and PS Interior Raymond Omollo were among those who rushed to the hospital following the incident.
Ong’ondo was first elected as Kasipul MP in 2017. He was then re-elected in 2022 on an Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) ticket. While in parliament, he served on the Departmental Committee on Blue Economy and Irrigation.
