KBC journalist Betty Barasa was killed on Wednesday last week after being accosted at the gate to her residence by a three armed men before being led into the house where they held her family hostage. The thugs ransacked the house as they demanded money, before leading the journalist upstairs to her bedroom, where she was shot in the face.
Betty was married and together with her husband, she was constructing a multi-million mansion in Ngong. However, detectives say that they believe Betty may have bee getting funded by a sponsor she was seeing. This theory was acknowledged by popular lawyer Wahome Thuku who said that it was plausible.
The flashy and gangster lifestyles murdered men lived
He said:
“WHEN I saw the house that this lady (RIP) was constructing (with her husband), something triggered in my mind. May be I watch too many murder documentaries but yes, if I was investigating this one, I would have started with that house. Start with her salary, her other income, her husband’s, his other sources, go to their accounts, to the mode of payment for the construction…any loan..Mpesa details, any chats relating to the house and with who..etc etc. And yes, I know I would have cracked it if it was linked to the murder.
Detectives now say the lady was killed by hitmen hired by the wife of her sponsor who was also financing the construction. May be, may be not. Remember they had demanded for money from her. Would they have killed her if she gave them a lot of money? May be may be not.
I would even go further and investigate the forth person in such a relationship – her husband. You don’t leave anything uncovered.”
