The United Kingdom has a new Prime Minister. Sir Keir Starmer of the Labour Party. Keir Starmer won the election in a historical landslide victory that will see out-going UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak bow out in shame for leading his party in what has been termed as an electoral Armageddon.
The election has also cost big Conservative leaders. Jacob Rees-Mogg and Penny Mordaunt who are Conservative bigwigs lost their parliamentary elections. Defence Secretary Grant Shapps also lost his seat. However, Rishi SUnak was able to get consolation after regaining his seat in Richmond, Yorkshire.
“The Labour Party has won this general election, and I’ve called Sir Keir Starmer to congratulate him on his victory. Today, power will change hands in a peaceful and orderly manner, with goodwill on all sides. That is something that should give us all confidence in our country’s stability and future,” Mr. Sunak was quoted by the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC).
Rishi Sunak became the first non-white Prime Minister of the United Kingdom in October 2022. His victory, though, did little to turn around the Conservative party that was on a nosedive to self-destruction.
“The British people have delivered a sobering verdict tonight, there is much to learn… and I take responsibility for the loss. To the many good, hard-working Conservative candidates who lost tonight, despite their tireless efforts, their local records and delivery, and their dedication to their communities. I am sorry,” said Sunak after conceding defeat.

On the other end, Sir Keir Starmer addressed his jubilant supporters in central London following projections of his massive win against Rishi Sunak’s Conservatives. “You campaigned for it, you fought for it, you voted for it and now it has arrived. Change begins now,” he was quoted by the BBC.
