There are 47.6 million Kenyans, Census report reveals

Kenya Population Census: The Kenya National Bureau of Statistics has released the Census results indicating that Kenya’s population is 47.6 million.

The results were released on Monday by KNBS director general Zachary Mwangi.

The report shows that there are 47,564,296 million people in the country compared to 38.6 million in 2010. The figures show that there are more women at 24 million than men, who stand at 23.6 million.

The Census was conducted on the nights of August 24 and 25. The report was released at State House Nairobi, where it was presented to President Uhuru Kenyatta.

According to the report the most populous counties are the capital Nairobi, Kiambu, Nakuru, Kakamega, Bungoma and Kilifi.

The least populous are Lamu, Isiolo, Samburu, Tana River and Taita Taveta counties.

The data indicated that the country has 24, 1014,716 females compared to 23, 548, 056, 24 number of males.

The statistics recorded the number of intersex persons for the first time. The country has a total of 1,524.

The average household size declined to 3.9 per cent in 2019 compared to 4.2 per cent as per the 2009 population results.

Speaking at the hand-over of the 2019 census report at State House, Nairobi, President Uhuru Kenyatta praised the efforts of the officials and all enumerators for overseeing a smooth exercise.

“We are the first country to release the census report two months after the exercise was conducted,” he added.
